Adam Clark, Founder and MD of Beyond Media Services

Since leaving university, I have been involved in Marketing across a variety of media companies, promoting:

From exhibitions, to awards, to conferences, to seminars, to launch parties… this wealth of experience reinforced my love of live events.

I remember at 22 being put on a presentation course, which culminated with each of us having to make a presentation to our fellow trainees (one of whom ended up becoming my wife, but that’s a story for another day!). I chose to talk about attending my first gig, and that moment where everything went quiet as we anticipated the band’s arrival on stage. That almost tangible, stomach churning excitement as we all stood, expectant, as one, waiting for what’s to come. How the intro music played and the band walked on stage to rapturous cheering and applause. That surge and crush as the crowd tried to gain an extra metre or two to get a little nearer to their heroes of the day. How I was lifted forwards, hands out stretched. A shared joy. A common love. A captured moment in time.

I think it was that first gig moment when I first thought, I can do this. I can create that atmosphere. I can exceed the expectations of an audience. I can enjoy seeing the reward and satisfaction on the faces of the customers as they leave an event. Yes, I can do this too.

So, setting up Beyond Media Services in 2005 was perhaps always the next step waiting to happen! 

Working my way up the corporate ladder, I have been fortunate to have learned from some very talented people. One thing that I’ve always admired is the desire to keep improving. Never settling for ‘that worked OK, let’s do the same again next time’ attitude. Like the British Cycling team that looked for 1% improvements across every facet of their sport, culminating in their incredible Olympic success, that drive for constant improvement is something that I admire and aspire to do with our events. Not change for changes sake, but how can we make our great events even better. How can we make those 1% improvements each and every time.

I still get a buzz as the entry levels go up year on year. As sponsorship sales grow. As events continue to sell out. As our customer service ratings continue to rise from the late 90’s upwards. As we pick up yet another Award nomination / trophy. And most importantly, as I see another batch of happy Awards guests / conference delegates / party goers arriving at our events and leaving another one of our quality events with a massive smile on their face. The true result of a job well done.
